MIAMI-DADE, Fla. — A South Florida corrections officer is alleging that a Miami-Dade police officer shot at her car in an apparent fit of road rage.
WSVN reports that Georgina Illa, a Miami-Dade corrections officer of four years, was driving to work when she was cut off by a white Mazda sedan.
She flashed her taillights and got on the phone with FHP, but then noticed that a man in the passenger seat was pointing a gun at her.
He fired once, hitting her car in the taillight.
Later, an FHP trooper arrived on the scene and spoke with the two men in the Mazda.
“The initial officer that, you know, made the traffic stop, after he talked to [the passenger] he came and talked to me,” Illa said. “He said, ‘You know, he’s a police officer… A Miami-Dade police officer.’”
She said the investigating officer told her that the off-duty law enforcer riding in the personal vehicle denied having a gun, as well as firing a weapon. The Mazda was impounded and FHP is currently leading an investigation into the issue.
Illa said investigators also went through her car and found the round that was fired.
Miami-Dade Police confirmed that their officer was present at the incident but indicated that they do not know what, if any, involvement he may have had in the incident.
It’s still unknown whether investigators found a gun inside the white Mazda, but the investigation is ongoing.
