St. Louis CO stabbed by prisoner is released from the hospital

A city correctional officer who was stabbed was released from the hospital Saturday morning

ST. LOUIS — A city correctional officer who was stabbed in the neck area by an inmate with a homemade knife on Friday night was released from the hospital Saturday morning, a city official said.

The stabbing happened shortly before 9 p.m. at the main city jail at 200 South Tucker Boulevard. The officer, a male in his 20s, was taken to St. Louis University Hospital. Officials said the attack occurred on the lockup’s third floor.

Charges are pending, said Cathy Smentkowski, a spokeswoman for the city’s department of public safety.
