KING COUNTY, Wash. — A warning was issued after a gun, uniform and duty belt was stolen from the vehicle of an off-duty corrections officer in King County.

According to My North West, the break-in happened May 29. A confidential bulletin was sent to members of the department, alerting them of the theft.

“There is no information that would lead us to believe the public should be more alarmed now than at any other time,” Capt. Troy Bacon said. “The safety bulletin was published for the staff working at the facility just to make sure they’re aware of the incident and to remain diligent in their duties.”

Bacon reported that jail staff always check the identification of all entering the facility in downtown Seattle, even if they’re in uniform. The theft is still being investigated.
