WILKES-BARRE, Pa. — The inmate accused of slashing the face of a corrections officer inside SCI-Dallas is scheduled for trial next month.

Joel Perez’s trial is scheduled for the week of Feb. 17, reports the Time Leader.

Perez is accused of slashing Francis Petroski with two razor blades embedded in a toothbrush handle on April 17.

Petroski was sitting at a desk at the time of the incident when Perez approached him from behind. Other officers responded and restrained Perez. The makeshift weapon was seized and turned over to police as evidence.

Petroski underwent surgery and was released a day after he was attacked.

Perez was serving a life sentence for first-degree murder at the time of the attack.
