WALLER COUNTY, Texas — Video shows protesters on Sunday storming the lobby of the Waller County jail where Sandra Bland was found hanged in an apparent suicide after her controversial arrest in July. It is the first escalation of protests at the jail that have persisted for nearly a month.
Police forcibly evicted about 30 chanting demonstrators from the jail lobby in Hempstead, Texas. Two elderly people were injured when the crow was pushed out, and one was taken by ambulance, according to multiple protesters.
In a press release, Waller County Sheriff Glenn Smith said, “This process interrupted our dispatch office to the point that everyday calls could not be heard. This was a direct threat to public safety and was not a peaceful assembly.”
