MONTPELIER, Vermont — Members of the Vermont State Employees’ Association have elected a longtime state Department of Corrections employee to head their union.
Dave Bellini had been employed as a work crew leader by the state for 37 years. Union members elected him and other officers at an annual meeting Saturday. He replaces Shelley Martin, who was elected as the association’s president for a two-year term in 2013.
Bellini tells the Burlington Free Press he wants to focus on staffing levels for state government and safety employees, specifically for workers at the Department for Children and Families.
A caseworker was killed last month as she left her office.
