WAUSAU, Wis. – The inmate accused of attacking CO Julie Christensen in March of last year has been convicted of the charges.
Wausau Daily Herald reports that inmate Frederick Morris has been convicted of one count of aggravated battery with the intention of causing bodily harm and two counts of battery by a prisoner as a repeat offender.
Christensen was hospitalized for months following the attack; another corrections officer was also injured during the incident.
A plea agreement would still allow for prosecutors to seek a “substantial” punishment during the sentencing hearing, according to Assistant District Attorney Lance Leonhard. They are recommending Morris receive 20 years.
Defense argues that Morris admitted to throwing the punch, but “never intended for her to get hurt that bad.” They also argue that Morris was off of his meds.
