RAWLINS, Wyo. — Police in Rawlins are looking into the defacement of a mural honoring a slain corrections officer.
The painting was done in memory of Cpl.Wayne Martinez, who was killed in 1997 in an inmate escape attempt. It’s next to a park named in his honor.
The Rawlins Times reports that someone scrawled over the face of the Virgin of Guadalupe, the mural’s centerpiece.
Wayne Martinez’s uncle, DeBari Martinez, says his family hasn’t had any previous problems with vandalism in the 16 years the mural has been there.
