VALHALLA – The six Westchester County jail prisoners who were reported to have overdosed on Sunday are now said to be in stable condition.
The Daily Voice reports that the public information officer for the Westchester County Police Department, Kieran O’Leary, confirmed that the inmates were in stable condition by Sunday night.
Police are currently investigating the drug that resulted in the inmates’ hospitalization and how it got into the jail.
Correctional officers called for ambulances around 2:51 p.m. on Sunday when an inmate was reported to be in medical distress. When the EMS units arrived, they found multiple inmates in distress and a mass casualty incident was declared.
All six were transported to two different hospitals in the area for medical treatment. All were monitored and remained in the custody of corrections officials, who rode in the ambulance s with the inmates.
Lohud reports that all six inmates were treated and returned to the jail. There are rumors that the inmates ingested a bad batch of K2, or spice.
