LANSING, N.Y. — An inmate now charged with promoting prison contraband said he hadn’t meant to have marijuana sent to him at the Tompkins County Jail, but when he reached state prison.
Ithaca Voice reports that Alanson D. Burlingame, 31, admitted to placing the marijuana in a hearing aid box before being incarcerated.
He then allegedly intended to have just the hearing aid and not the box shipped to him at the jail.
Officials discovered the drugs inside the case when it arrived at the jail.
Burlingame was arraigned on August 4 and is currently still in the Tompkins County Jail. He’s scheduled to reappear in court on September 9.
It’s unclear who sent him the marijuana.
