ATLANTA — An inmate who escaped from a state facility in metro Atlanta was captured in North Georgia after a chase and shots fired by federal marshals, the GBI said.
Hernan Quijano, 25, is in the Whitfield County jail after the confrontation late Wednesday, GBI agent Greg Ramey said in a news release.
Quijano recently had escaped from the Clayton Transitional Center in Forest Park, officials said. When U.S. Marshals found him in Dalton and tried to arrest him, he drove into several of their vehicles. Two deputy marshals fired multiple times into Quijano’s vehicle, according to the GBI.
Quijano was arrested after a chase.
No one was injured in the incident, Ramey said. The marshals involved weren’t identified.
The GBI will investigate, which is routine in use-of-force cases by law enforcement.
Quijano was convicted of drug and weapons offenses in Whitfield County, according to the Georgia Department of Corrections website.
