DELAND, Fla. — A Volusia County jail inmate who tried to escape from a work site Wednesday had a few days left to complete his sentence for grand theft but now faces many years in prison, officials said.
Richard Blaylock, 37, had only nine days of a 180-day sentence left, Volusia County spokesman Dave Byron said.

DeLand police charged him Wednesday with escape, Sgt. John Anderson said.
