BIRMINGHAM, Ala. — The Alabama Department of Corrections is investigating a report of a call to a Birmingham TV station from a person alleging to be an inmate who escaped from the St. Clair Correctional Facility in Springville on Monday, according to the Alabama Department of Corrections.
Today, a news reporter with WBRC, a Raycom Media broadcasting station in Birmingham reported a phone call to the station from a person who identified himself as Antwone Wilson, Alabama Department of Corrections spokesperson Bob Horton said.
Wilson is one of the two inmates who escaped from the St. Clair prison Monday. Ronald Odell King was also reported missing and was recaptured in Jefferson County Tuesday.
Horton said the person confessed to the escape during the call.
He said WBRC has been cooperative with ADOC’s investigation. The information the caller provided has been turned over to the U.S. Marshall Fugitive Task Force, he said.
Wilson is serving a life-without-parole sentence for a first-degree robbery conviction in Jefferson County.
Horton said they are working with all levels of law enforcement to recapture Wilson.
