SEYMOUR, Ind. — An Indiana man is back in custody after he briefly escaped a Jackson County Sheriff’s Department deputy, WIS reports.

According to Seymour police, who were called to the scene for assistance, the inmate, Jackson Hatchett, 27, was being discharged from Schneck Medical Center on Monday when he overpowered an unnamed corrections officer and strangled him until he lost consciousness.

He then barricaded himself inside a bathroom before breaking out of a third-story window and jumping to the second-story roof below.

Hatchett was quickly apprehended by police, however, after a hospital security officer cornered him in a nearby mechanical room.

Hatchett was treated for injuries sustained from the jump and charged with escape, battery with serious bodily injury, strangulation, theft and criminal mischief.

The condition of the CO has not been released.
