NORMAN, Okla. — An Oklahoma prisoner was able to trick officers into releasing him from the Cleveland County jail, KOCO ABC 5 Oklahoma City reports.
The inmate, named Rowdy Offield, walked away from the jail after disguising himself as another inmate — his cellmate — who’d posted bail, KOCO said, adding that other inmates helped Offield in his escape.
According to KOCO’s report, Offield’s co-conspirators threatened his cell mate not to sound the alarm or his family would be harmed.
Officials at the jail are investigating whether officers or other jail employees did anything wrong to lead to Offield’s escape.
KOCO’s investigation showed that Offield has attempted to escape from jails in the past.
