STRINGTOWN, Okla. — A manhunt is underway for two inmates who cut through a prison fence to escape from an Atoka County facility.

Surveillance video shows the two men running across prison grounds to one spot next to a perimeter fence, according to KTEN. The same video also shows someone on the outside of the fence tossing in what looks like a pair of wire cutters.

“It was somebody from the outside that threw something over the fence, someone from the streets,” said Okla. DOC director Robert Patton.

The two inmates have been identified as Lance Colbert and Dwayne Motsenbocker. Colbert is serving a life sentence for two murder convictions. Motsenbocker is incarcerated for armed robbery.

Motsenbocker has escaped from prison at least twice since 1982 according to online records.

No one realized the inmates were missing until about 7 a.m. Monday, even though they escaped around 11 p.m. Sunday, despite hourly headcounts.

Two correctional officers have resigned.

It’s believed that the two inmates likely got a ride out of the area. Authorities have been searching highways and searched woods near the medium-security prison. Flyers have been posted at nearby convenience stores.
