DEVILS LAKE, N.D. — Another escape from the Lake Region Correctional Facility in Devils Lake has prompted Eddy County commissioners to address safety concerns of the aging building.

Commissioner Ed Brown is calling for a review of the facility, which is more than 40 years old. Most recently a registered sex offender slipped under one fence and over another during an outdoor recreation time. His absence wasn’t discovered for 30 hours. The head corrections officer at the time of the escape resigned as a result of the incident.

The Devils Lake Journal says three inmates have escaped since 2015. Commissioners at a meeting this week talked about a range of security issues at the facility, but took no action.
