NEW YORK — Newly released video shows the events leading up to the moment when a corrections officer opened fire on her ex-boyfriend before turning the gun on herself.

Kisha Brown, 47, chased her ex-boyfriend down a street before firing shots that missed him and struck surrounding cars. Then she fatally shot herself in the chest, DNA Info reported.

Colleagues said the shooting was “totally unexpected.”

“They are devastated and heartbroken. It’s hard to describe. It’s like losing a family member,” corrections officer union vice president Sgt. Clarence Fisher told the publication.

Investigators are still searching for a motive for the shooting. Officials say this is the second staff suicide in three years.

Fisher said Brown and her ex worked together at Sing Sing before they were transferred to Queensboro in 2006.

“As an officer, she did her job and she did it well,” Fisher said. “Their stories in corrections kind of mirror each other because they’re kind of the same. They’re both good officers.”
