NEW YORK, Ny. — Some New Yorkers might be known for their good work, but few are known for their perfect performance.
Corrections Officer Kenneth Pawlukiewicz was recently honored for his 20 years of perfect attendance with a surprise retirement and 50th birthday celebration in October to commemorate his exemplary service to the city.
“It was a wonderful evening that could never be duplicated,” Pawlukiewicz said.
Assemblyman Joseph Lentol presented the retired officer with an outstanding achievement award medal for his service to the City of New York, referring to Pawlukiewicz’s work and dedication to numerous causes in the Greenpoint area.
Lentol said that the two had worked together over the past 30 years and both continued to be involved with the Church of the Ascension on Kent Street, where Mr. Pawlukiewicz was baptized as a baby and continues to attend.
Mayor Michael Bloomberg, who was unable to attend the ceremony, sent a statement regarding his wishes for the retired officer’s birthday and successes on job. “As a correction officer, your record of perfect attendance is a mark of the dedication you brought to protecting the people of New York, and represents the very best our city has to offer.”
“This is what life is all about,” Pawlukiewicz said. “Growing, working, retiring, celebrating and enjoying time with the people that you love and care about.”
