Inmate attack prompts lockdown at Wash. prison

A number of inmates attacked three officers before being restrained by other staff members

WALLA WALLA, Wash. — Parts of the Washington State Penitentiary in Walla Walla were put on lockdown Tuesday afternoon after inmates attacked three correctional officers.

The attack happened at roughly 1:15 p.m. in a common area in the prison’s West Complex, which consists of four separate units. According to the Department of Corrections, a number of inmates attacked three officers before being restrained by other staff members.

The officers were taken to a local hospital for treatment, but the severity of their injuries is unknown.
