LANSING, Mich. — House Bill 5881, which would allow retired corrections officers to return to work and still receive their pensions, was given final approval by the Michigan Senate.
It passed by a 24-14 vote, according to the Lansing State Journal. No more votes are needed, but the bill now goes back to the House to be referred to Gov. Rick Snyder’s desk for enactment.
The Michigan Department of Corrections has said the legislation was necessary to achieve at least $7.5 million through Sept. 30 by using as many as 500 retired officers to help reduce overtime costs.
