ATLANTA — A federal corrections officer died last week after suffering a medical emergency while transporting inmates from Tallahassee to a facility in Atlanta.
Federal Bureau of Prisons Senior Officer Specialist Andrew “Doug” Douglas, 51, was assigned to the Federal Correctional Institution in Tallahassee, where he oversaw prisoner transportation, according to a fundraising page established for his family. He suffered a sudden cardiac event on Nov. 6 while driving an agency transportation bus.
In a Facebook post, American Federation of Government Employees Local 1570 President Ray Coleman Jr. said that Officer Douglas was a valued member of the law enforcement family. Coleman Jr. said he worked with Douglas for four years and considered him a brother.
“Those of us who had the pleasure of interacting with ‘Doug‘ know that never did he have a bad day,” Coleman Jr. wrote. “Not a moment went by that he didn’t smile, crack a joke or have something positive to say.”

Douglas is survived by sons Jamal and Rashad, and mother Rose.
