CORCORAN, Calif. — California Correctional Peace Officers Association presented a plaque to one of three women who rescued a corrections officer after they found him unconscious following a crash.

Thomas Holmes’ truck flipped down Highway 198 on June 16, ejecting him from the vehicle, according to the Visalia Times.

Ashley Parks, her mother Joanne Nabors, and friend Jennifer Jutiron pulled over near the accident to see what happened, and found Holmes unconscious.

“I couldn’t let him die. No one was doing anything. But, I knew I had to try,” said Nabors.

Nabors performed CPR as the other two got blankets to cover the 17 year veteran of the California Substance Abuse Treatment Facility and State Prison at Corcoran.

“You brought [Thomas] back to life. We are appreciative for everything you did for us,” said Joe Carrasco, chapter president for the correctional officers association.

Holmes underwent multiple surgeries following the incident and remained in a coma for a week. He has since returned home and is recovering.

“I didn’t realize my life had been saved until Joanne walked into my hospital room. I am so grateful,” said Holmes at the appreciation ceremony.
