GREER COUNTY, Okla. — Two inmates are back in custody after they attacked a corrections officer and escaped from Greer County Jail.

Nick Ritter and his cellmate, Anthony Acuna, attacked the CO Monday after they asked him for water, KSWO reported. When the officer opened the cell door to give them the water, Ritter put him in a chokehold and told Acuna told let Darren Padron out of his cell.

Padron and Acuna continued attacking the CO, leaving him with several knots on his head, KOCO reported. Padron and Ritter then locked the officer and Acuna in the cell and fled in a stolen car, taken from a family member of Ritter’s significant other, KSWO reported.

After a brief police pursuit, the vehicle crashed into a lake. The inmates, and passenger LeeAnn Lovett, were taken into custody.

Ritter and Padron have a history of escapes. Ritter escaped from Greer County Jail in May 2015, while Padron escaped after a conviction in 2011.

The inmates face additional charges. The officer is expected to make a full recovery.
