2 inmates suspected of stabbing Ohio CO dozens of times

A three-time killer and another convicted murderer are suspected of stabbing an Ohio corrections officer multiple times

LUCASVILLE, Ohio — A three-time killer and another convicted murderer are suspected of stabbing an Ohio corrections officer multiple times, according to a prison union.

The Dayton Daily News reports that inmates Casey Pigge and Greg Reinke are suspects in the brutal attack The CO was airlifted to a hospital with several dozen stab wounds.

“It was bad. He is still in the hospital. There were multiple, multiple stab wounds,” Sally Meckling, spokeswoman for the Ohio Civil Service Employees Association, said.

The wounded officer was identified as Matthew Mathias by the Ohio Department of Rehabilitation and Correction. A spokeswoman with the DRC said Mathias underwent surgery and is “considered in stable condition.”

The Ohio State Highway Patrol is investigating the attack.

Pigge was convicted for the murders of his ex-girlfriend, his cellmate and another inmate. Reineke is serving a life sentence for a slew of charges, including aggravated murder.
