KINGS COUNTY, Calif. — Four correctional officers were injured Tuesday evening after an inmate stabbed one of the officers at Corcoran State Prison, authorities said.
Dan Felix, 35, stabbed a correctional officer several times in his neck, head and shoulder with a handmade weapon, officials said. Felix used a handmade key to break free from his handcuffs about 3:20 p.m. before stabbing the officer.
Two officers sustained injuries to their wrists, backs and knees when they tried to intervene and another officer was kicked by Steven Rivera, a 25-year-old inmate.
The stabbed officer, who was airlifted to the hospital, was reported in good condition. The other three officers were also taken to a hospital.
