MONTGOMERY — Ten inmates, suspected of organizing planned assaults on correction officers and staff at St. Clair Correctional Facility have been moved to different close-security prisons, according to the Department of Corrections.
Following a Department of Corrections investigation into recent inmate assaults at the St. Clair Correctional Facility in Springville, 10 inmates who were suspected of planning an assault on correctional staff were transferred from the facility by prison authorities on Thursday.
“The Department of Corrections had credible evidence from the investigation that indicated the inmates were collectively organizing a planned assault on correctional officers,” said ADOC Commissioner Jeff Dunn.
To prevent further violence, the inmates were segregated from the facility’s general population. This took place without incident, according to the ADOC, and the inmates have been moved to separate close-security correctional facilities.
