ANCHORAGE — A Wednesday assault against an Anchorage correctional officer by an inmate is being investigated by the Alaska State Troopers.Correctional officers at the 4th Avenue jail responded Wednesday around 1 p.m. to reports that an inmate was disruptive with medical staff, according to a Friday trooper’s dispatch.
“The inmate initially complied with verbal commands but then spun around quickly and punched one of the male correctional officers in the face, resulting in an injury to the nose and mouth,” troopers wrote. Brad Wilson of the Alaska Correctional Officers Association, the union representing correctional officers, identified the officer as Michael Williams.
According to Wilson, Williams’ nose was broken in the incident, one of his front teeth was knocked out and he was left with two black eyes. Wilson provided a photo of the injuries. AST spokesperson Beth Ipsen, who declined to confirm Williams’ identity, said the injured officer was treated and released from an Anchorage hospital.
