LITTLE ROCK, Ark. — An inmate on a work crew just outside the Calico Rock prison was shot in the shoulder Monday by a corrections officer after he allegedly charged at an officer on horseback, according to a prison spokesperson.

Inmate Joseph A. Henry, 39, was part of a field utility work crew Monday morning at the Arkansas Department of Correction’s North Central Unit when he allegedly charged at an officer on horseback at least three times.

Inmates on work crews are told not to approach within 10 feet of the horses, and all inmates are well aware of the rule, according to a spokesperson.
