CO attacked, bitten by inmate in Ill. detention center

KANKAKEE, Ill. — An inmate at an Illinois detention center was charged with aggravated battery to a corrections officer after he punched and bit a CO on Thursday.

The Daily Journal Kankakee reports that inmate Wendell Haywood refused an officer’s request to put on his identification band, which is supposed to be worn at all times. Haywood punched the CO twice in the face and bit his thumb.

The officer was treated at a hospital and has since been released.

Haywood’s bond is set at $75,000. He will be arraigned Jan. 10.
