THURSTON COUNTY, Wash. — A corrections officer at the Thurston County Jail needed stitches to a close head wound he suffered early Wednesday morning after an inmate struck him in the head with a metal coffee cup, a sheriff’s detective said.
The inmate, Mark Thomas, 23, is in jail awaiting the disposition of a first-degree assault charge after he allegedly struck a Tumwater police officer in the head with a hammer. The Tumwater police officer was struck in September while he was responding to a call about runaway at an apartment in the 300 block of T Street SW.
The Tumwater police officer, later identified as Austin Cady, suffered “two significant lacerations” to his head and was hospitalized after his injuries, Tumwater Police Detective Jen Kolb said in September. Kolb confirmed Wednesday that Cady has not yet returned to duty after suffering the injuries.
