BURLINGTON, Iowa — A Burlington woman arrested for drug possession was stuck with an additional charge after becoming combative during the booking process and injuring a correctional officer Wednesday afternoon.
Shareedah Rene Hogan, 25, was being processed at the Des Moines County Correctional Center when she became combative and refused to sit down, despite several requests from the officers. She swung at a correctional officer several times, and was escorted into a cell. She continued to try to punch and scratch the officers, and struck one in the face, leaving the officer with scratches under both eyes.
Hogan had already been charged with possession of a controlled substance and criminal trespassing, and was additionally charged with assault on a correctional officer causing bodily injury. She is being held at Des Moines County Correctional Center, and there is currently no bond.
It has not been a good month at the Des Moines County jail.
On Dec. 10, a trio of inmates — two convicted murderers, Earl Booth-Harris and Jorge Sanders-Galvez, and convicted armed robber Bobby Morris — assaulted two correctional officers after a discovery of “hooch” being made in one of the cells, resulting in charges of attempted murder. One correctional officer was severely beaten and will require surgery, while the other was knocked down and struck her head but was able to call for help.
