SALEM COUNTY, NJ — Salem County corrections officers and facility administrators were saddened by the loss of a fellow corrections officer killed in fiery car crash this week, who they described as “well-liked” and “a credit to their department.”

Lucas E. McDonald, 22, of Elmer, was killed when the 1999 Dodge Ram pickup truck he was driving ran off a road in Harrison Township, and then hit a tree and caught fire on Wednesday.

According to Salem County Warden Ray Skradzinski, McDonald had been employed as a county corrections officer since July 2010. He graduated in November as a member of the 82nd Basic Corrections Recruit Class at the Camden County College Police Academy for Corrections — where he was also the recipient of the Physical Conditioning Award.
