POTTSVILLE, Pa. — An inmate from Federal Correctional Institution/Schuylkill faces charges for allegedly assaulting a prison guard in August 2013, officials announced Wednesday.
Darian Tensley, 37, faces a charge of assaulting and intimidating the corrections officer at FCI/Schuylkill. A federal grand jury in Scranton indicted Tensley on Tuesday, officials said.
Federal law enforcement officials alleged Tensley assaulted the officer, identified only as J.S., while he was on duty on or about Aug. 14, 2013, at the prison in Mount Pleasant, northwest of Minersville. J.S. suffered an injury as a result of Tensley’s assault, the grand jury charged.
The FBI investigated the incident.
Tensley faces a maximum possible sentence of 20 years in prison, a period of supervised release following that prison term and a $250,000 fine.
Assistant U.S. Attorney Todd K. Hinkley is prosecuting the case against Tensley, who is the second FCI/Schuylkill inmate to face charges as the result of an alleged assault against a corrections officer and the third to have been indicted by that grand jury.
On Tuesday, officials announced that the same grand jury had indicted Deshon Thomas, 40, for allegedly assaulting another corrections officer at FCI/Schuylkill in November 2014, and Dwayne Parker, 30, for allegedly possessing a homemade weapon in April 2014 at the same prison. The three incidents are not related, although Hinkley is prosecuting all three cases, officials said.
