Ind. inmate accused of CO attack ‘felt disrespected’

Deadrian Boykins told officers he attacked CO Quinton Greer after asking him to leave a jail television on to “show some holiday spirit”

FORT WAYNE — A convicted murderer accused of seriously injuring a northeastern Indiana jail guard allegedly told investigators he struck the man because he felt he had been disrespected.

Court records indicate 18-year-old Deadrian Boykins told officers he attacked Allen County Jail guard Quinton Greer, after asking Greer to leave a jail television on to “show some holiday spirit.”

The Journal Gazette reports surveillance video shows Boykins walking up alongside Greer’s right side and smashing him in the head with a tray.

Authorities say Greer remains in serious but stable condition at a Fort Wayne area hospital, recovering from a broken nose, broken cheek bones and cuts to his face.

Boykins was sentenced last week to 65 years in prison for the April slaying of 17-year-old Elijah Freeman in Fort Wayne.
