Inmate incapacitates Wisc. corrections officer with blow to head

Two corrections officers entered cell block to take “corrective action” when inmate became combative

WAUSAU, Wisc. — A correctional officer at the Marathon County Jail was struck in the head by an inmate Wednesday, rendering the officer incapacitated.

Another officer was injured during the ensuing struggle, according to the Daily Herald. Both officers were hospitalized after the assault and their conditions are unknown.

The attack occurred when the officers entered a cellblock to take “corrective action” according to a Sheriff’s Department release. One inmate became combative, striking one of the officers in the head with a closed fist and then injuring the second officer when they attempted to take control of the inmate.
