CHIPPEWA TOWNSHIP, Mich. — An Isabella County landlord is accused of groping one of his tenants while trying to rape her, and of kicking a corrections officer in the side of the head while she was trying to restrain him in the Isabella County Jail.

Rickey French Henkes, 44, is accused of going to a Chippewa Township rental on Friday while his accuser was eating dinner with her son and another person. The three told a deputy that Henkes, the landlord, came into the house uninvited and unannounced, started yelling incoherently and began making sexualized comments toward his tenant.

She told the deputy that Henkes frequently comes to the house unannounced and lets himself in.

Henkes approached her in the dining room, according to an affidavit in the criminal file. He reached out and grabbed her genital area and made lewd comments, she told the deputy.

He then went to the boy, made lewd comments at him and demonstrated oral sex. Then he went outside and drove around the yard in his car, she told the deputy.

Deputies arrested him and took him to the jail, where he caused a disturbance in the holding cell by banging on the glass. Corrections staff decided to put him in restraints. Corrections officers were restraining his arms while a third put a spit hood on him and moved to his unrestrained right foot.

“You want this foot,” she said she heard him say before he kicked her in the right side of the face, which sent her backward, according to the affidavit.

Other officers secured his feet.

The incident was caught on the officer’s body cam, according to the affidavit.

The officer said she still had mild discomfort in her cheek, which was red right after the incident.

Henkes was charged with assault with intent to commit rape, a 10-year felony; assault of a jail employee, a five-year felony; and fourth-degree criminal sexual conduct, a two-year high court misdemeanor.
