DAYTON, Ohio — A Dayton man was charged with assaulting a corrections officer after he allegedly struck an employee in the Middletown City Jail on Wednesday night.

William Blair, 23, of Fairport Road, apparently became combative when he was being changed out of his street clothes to his jail clothes, police said. Three officers escorted Blair to a cell and he continued to throw punches. Danny Gibson, a corrections officer, deployed his Taser to get Blair under control, police said. During the struggle, Gibson was struck in the right eye by Blair’s elbow and Gibson received lacerations on his elbows.

Besides the assault charge, Blair was charged with obstructing official business, inducing panic, resisting arrest, having weapons under disability, aggravated menacing and bench warrant for failure to comply.
