HUMBOLDT — A missing Humboldt County correctional officer has been found in Del Norte County safe and sound after he failed to return from a camping trip over the weekend.
A search and rescue team located Eureka resident Jeffrey Gutierrez, 30, in the area where he had been camping near the South Fork of the Smith River shortly after 12:30 p.m. today.
”Gutierrez is located and search teams are walking him out as we speak,” said Humboldt County Sheriff’s Office Lt. George Cavinta.
Del Norte County Sheriff’s Office Cmdr. Bill Steven confirmed that Gutierrez has been found alive and in good shape. He said more information will be made available this afternoon when the search and rescue team returns.
