Neb. prison staff member injured in assault by inmate

The inmate punched the staff member in the head and torso multiple times and fractured the staffer’s jaw

LINCOLN, Neb. — An inmate at the Diagnostic and Evaluation Center in Lincoln assaulted a staff member Monday night, resulting in a serious injury, prisons officials said in a news release.

The inmate punched the unidentified staff member in the head and torso multiple times and fractured the staffer’s jaw shortly after 9:30 p.m., the Department of Correctional Services said.

Other staff members were able to restrain the inmate and assist the injured staff member. Once an investigation is completed, findings will be turned over to the Lancaster County Attorney to determine if the inmate will be prosecuted.
