Casimiro M. Pomales, 52, a New York State corrections officer, died last Friday from injuries sustained in an automobile accident, according to the Officer Down Memorial Page.
Pomales was working as a CO at the Eastern Correctional Facility in Napanoch when he died, according to the Watershed Post.
The ODMP reports that he was driving a prison van when it was sideswiped by another vehicle. The driver of that vehicle was adjusting the heat in her car when she ran into the van, according to the Post article.
Pomales served 22 years, 6 months as a corrections officer, having spent the entirety of his tour at the Eastern Correctional Facility.
A veteran of the U.S. Navy, Pomales is survived by his partner of 20 years, Victoria Bangert; his children: Casimiro Pomales, Maximino J. Pomales, Zanneya Pomales, all of Kerhonkson; his stepchildren: Michael Bangert of Wawarsing, Melissa Bangert of Long Island, and Eric Bangert of Warwarsing. He is also survived by a sister, Jacquilanda Pomales-Moody of Raleigh, NC; a half-brother, William Stewart of Philadelphia, PA; 12 grandchildren; several nieces and nephews.
