CHILLICOTHE, Ohio — Follow an attack on four correctional officers, staff at the Ross Correctional Institution are calling for changes to make their workplace safer.
ABC News reports that the four officers who were attacked are now recovering from their injuries, which range from a broken eye socket to a broken hand. One was injured with pepper spray.
Staffing levels at the facility are at a historic low, which leaves officers stretched thin.
One officer, Christina Minney, says inmates are getting more violent with each passing year.
The Ohio Civil Service Employees Association says prison officials are thinking about making changes.
Minney said officers receive 3 weeks of self-defense training when they first come in on the job, and then have a refresher course every year.
The Ross Correctional Institute did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
