MANSFIELD — The replacements for the old tasers and stingers are “no joke.”
“The new MPIDs make the old stuff look like water pistols,” said Richland County Sheriff’s Lt. Robert Santoro, a trainer. “They have been redesigned and made especially for law enforcement in a correctional setting.”
According to the company website, the Karbon Arms Multi-Purpose Immobilization Device is designed to “immobilize, take daily abuse and be simple to use.”
Maj. Dale Fortney said the sheriff’s office bought 10 units so that, on most days, each corrections officer can carry one on a belt.
