WASHINGTON COUNTY, Okla. — An investigation is ongoing after a deputy died Thursday after an altercation with a detainee.
According to KOKH, officers had arrested 17 people on drug-related charges that morning. One of the subjects became uncooperative after being brought to the jail. That person became violent towards detention staff, resulting in an altercation with a deputy, KOKH reports.
The deputy was injured and taken to a hospital where he died from his wounds, according to KOKH.
The sheriff’s office says it will not be releasing the names of the deputy or inmate because of the ongoing investigation, reports FOX 23. The deputy was described as a male in his mid-thirties.
