CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo. — A Cape Girardeau city jail inmate is charged with assaulting a jailer.

Twenty-two-year-old Charlesmen Bobo of Cape Girardeau faces one count of second-degree assault on a corrections officer.

Cape Girardeau Police Department spokesman Darin Hickey says Bobo is accused of punching a jailer several times Thursday while he was being put into a cell.

The jailer was taken to a hospital with serious, but not life-threatening, injuries.

Bobo is jailed in Cape Girardeau County on a $25,000 cash-only bond. He initially was arrested on a Cape Girardeau County warrant for failure to appear for traffic violations. No attorney is listed for him in online court records.
