Ohio — Overall violence in Ohio prisons is down, but serious assaults on prison staff are up, a new Ohio Department of Rehabilitation and Correction report shows.
Required by a 2001 state criminal sentencing overall, the report covered assaults in prisons from Jan. 1, 2007, to Sept. 30, 2012.
The overall rate of violence declined, but incidents resulting in serious injuries to prison staff, primarily corrections officers, doubled during the period, the report said. There were 40 serious staff injuries in both 2010 and 2011, and a similar number last year.
