NEW ORLEANS, La. — About 1,000 inmates that were evacuated in advance of Hurricane Isaac were returned to their cells Friday.

Those that were moved out of the city had been housed in temporary facilities: a building opened earlier this year as well as several tents. The location of either has not been disclosed, according to The Greater N.O.

During the storm, the back-up generator at the jail worked successfully according to Orleans Parish Sheriff Marlin Gusman. About 1,300 inmates remained housed at the jail during the hurricane.

More inmates were added, too: 56 people were booked, 32 of them for looting during the city’s state of emergency.

The storm is expected to drop several inches of rain over parts of Midwest this weekend.
