BATON ROUGE, La. — Four Louisiana correctional officers and two inmates suffered minor injuries Monday afternoon in a prison van crash on U.S. 61 in East Baton Rouge Parish.
The guards were bringing two female inmates back from a doctor’s appointment when the prisoner transport van they were traveling in wrecked, said Ken Pastorick, spokesman for the Department of Public Safety and Corrections.
The women are inmates at the Jetson Center for Youth, a former juvenile facility in Baker that’s been temporarily reopened to house inmates from the Louisiana Correctional Center for Women, the state’s only women’s prison which has been closed since taking on water during the August floods.
Pastorick said none of those involved in the wreck appear to be seriously injured. He added that the department is reviewing the incident.
