SCHUYLKILL COUNTY, Pa. — The Schuylkill County Prison Board held a special meeting Wednesday to fill one of 10 part-time prison guard positions created in February.
The prison board voted to hire Stanley Moyer, Shamokin, as a corrections officer after a half-hour executive session. The commissioners will finalize the decision at a salary board meeting Wednesday when they will also set a starting date.
“Basically, this is one applicant that is already certified,” Commissioner Gary J. Hess said Thursday.
Hess said the board has been looking to hire people who already completed the required training to reduce costs for the county. He said applicants are still being evaluated for the other nine positions.
Commissioner George F. Halcovage Jr. said Moyer has valuable experience in the state correctional system, which will benefit the rest of the staff.
