W. Va. prison employees protest dangerous conditions

Employees with federal penitentiary have been told they face up to 14 non-paid furlough days due to spending cuts

PRESTON COUNTY, W. Va. — Earlier this month an automatic $85-billion in spending cuts, better known as the sequester, went into effect. Now we’re learning a little more about the impact those cuts will have on our area.

Employees with the federal penitentiary in Preston County have been told they face up to 14 non-paid furlough days due to those spending cuts.

On Thursday the employees from the federal penitentiary in Hazelton were out protesting those cuts along with conditions at the prison.
